Discover Peace River

Our day started early. We left the house at around 6:30 AM so we could meet up with the tour group near Wauchula by 9. For our first time fossil hunting on Peace River, we decided to go with a guided tour through Paleo Discoveries. Our guide, Fred Mazza, was an exceptionally experienced and knowledgeable expert in the area and had all the supplies we needed ready to go. The group that day was relatively small, only about eight of us, and a few kids were included as well. They were doing the tour with their parents and grandparents, and their excitement was contagious. After Fred gave us a debriefing and explained what we were going to do, we helped unload the canoes and finally set paddle toward our destination.

Flagler's Florida

Palm Beach was not transformed by chance, nor was Florida’s glittering east coast destined for grandeur on its own. It took the vision of a man who had already mastered one American empire and was ready to shape another. When he turned his attention south, he did not see swampland and scattered settlements. He saw possibility, scale, and the opportunity to build something that would redefine an entire coastline. By the time Flagler first set foot in Florida in the late nineteenth century, he was a titan of industry, a co founder of Standard Oil, and one of the wealthiest men in the United States. Yet beneath the discipline and financial genius lived a restless visionary. Palm Beach would become his final and most personal masterpiece.

Winter Garden Florida

A few weeks ago, I met up with friends for a long weekend built around eating well, and laughing more than was probably necessary. My friends had been hyping Urban on Plant Kitchen & Bar in Winter Garden for months, and without a hesitation, off we went.

We claimed a cozy booth and wasted no time ordering Sunday morning Bloody Marys. These were not shy brunch cocktails. They showed up ready to wake up the table, and make us wonder if we were really ready for that level of mixology before noon. Our waiter must have sensed our early-day vulnerability because he promptly provided extra tomato juice and never batted an eye.
