The Utopian Collection

During a recent cruise, I was quietly enjoying my very responsible non-alcoholic Shirley Temple at the Schooner Bar, when the seated women next to me ordered. The bartender set their drinks down, and I took one look and realized Shirley T was not my longtime friend. My new acquaintances’ lowball glasses with their black salt rim and pinkish-purple glow completely stole my attention, and suddenly my plan for a quiet mocktail moment was forgotten. I couldn’t resist peeking over, and before long, I was captivated by the thrill of trying something new. My goal, ever since, has been to recreate these wonderful drinks at home, magical colors, inventive garnishes, and surprising flavor combinations that made the Utopia of the Seas cocktail experience so unforgettable.

DESERT PEAR MARGARITA

(As served at Schooner Bar on the Utopia of the Seas)

  • 1-1/2 oz. – Patron Silver Tequila
  • 1 oz. – Desert Pear Syrup
  • 1 oz. – Lime Juice

Shake with ice and strain over fresh ice in a lowball glass rimmed with black salt. Garnish with a lime wedge.

MAMBO MOJITO
FRAPPE

(As served at Boleros on the Utopia of the Seas)

  • 2 oz. – Atlantico Rum
  • 2 oz. – Lime Juice
  • 6 – Mint Leaves
  • 1 oz. – Simple Syrup
  • splash of club soda

Combine everything except club soda into blender with just enough ice to peak over the top of the liquid. Blend thoroughly. Pour mixture into glass and top with club soda. Garnish with a mint sprig.

MISSISSIPPI
MOONLIGHT

(As served at The Mason Jar on the Utopia of the Seas)

  • 2 oz. – Ole Smoky Blackberry Moonshine
  • 6 – Blackberries
  • 1 – Sprig of Mint
  • 4 oz. – Lemonade

Muddle 4 blackberries in the mason jar first, and fill to the top with ice. Add remaining ingredients. Roll back and forth using a mixing tin to incorporate ingredients.

Garnish with two skewered blackberries and mint sprig.
